Chinese Herbology
The use of natural substances to promote health and healing has been part of Oriental Medicine for over 2000 years. The organic compounds used in Chinese Herbology are easily assimilated by the human body, and gradually serve to restore normal function. Sleep, digestion, mood, elimination, breathing, blood pressure, gynecological and urological problems, chronic pain or weakness—are but a few of the health issues that can be addressed by shifting to natural medicines. Frequently, patients seek help from a certified Chinese Herbologist because they have become dependent on numerous synthetic pharmaceuticals, which are only ‘managing’ their problems, but not correcting them! Furthermore, synthetic drugs carry many known side-effects, some of which are quite serious—and which increase in unknown ways, when 2 or more drugs are combined. In contrast, the science and art of Chinese Herbology is predicated on the synergistic combinations of whole plant, animal or mineral substances!
The only US health providers that receive adequate professional training in this body of knowledge, and are Board-certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM)—are Licensed Acupuncturists who hold the Diplomate of Chinese Herbology (Dipl.C.H.) or the Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. (Dipl.O.M.) Currently, qualified Acupuncturists seeking licensure in MA must have no less than 660 hours of accredited herbal study, and proposed regulations will require the Dipl.C.H. or Dipl.O.M. for any Licensed Acupuncturist who wishes to employ Chinese Herbology in their practice. We agree that these high standards help to protect the public by distinguishing which Licensed Acupuncturists have sufficient training to prescribe these medicines for their patients.
Professional-grade herbal medicines are restricted for sale to qualified Licensed Acupuncturists. These products are carefully selected and screened in laboratories by trusted professional firms; these GMP-certified facilities ensure proper substance identification, and detect unsafe levels of pesticides, fungicides, heavy metals, and pollutants. Organically-farmed herbs are increasingly available. Patients are encouraged to work with a professional, to get the best results!
