Week 3 - Cultivating Clarity & Wisdom (Prajna)

Cultivating a calm & wakeful mind is an important first step in cultivating mindfulness but it is not enough. As we continue practicing we begin to realize that the peaceful feeling we create for ourselves during our meditation often doesn't last once we get drawn back into busyness of our responsibilities. The problem isn’t so much the responsibilities themselves but rather its how we understand and relate to these responsibilities. We want to recognize and becomes aware of the conceptual, emotional, and volitional habits that we have that are unskilful and lead to feelings of distress, dissatisfaction, or discontentment. To uproot these unskilful habits we need to develop wisdom and insight. We need to cultivate a sharp and discerning mind that can recognize these patterns of mental activity that leave us unfulfilled. Cultivating Clarity and Wisdom is the next step in cultivating Mindfulness.

In this third class of the series we will…

  • Explore the practice of Insight Meditation (Vipassana)

  • Discuss the difference between Analytic Insight vs. Contemplative Insight

  • Explore and gain insight into the different kinds of wisdom we wish to cultivate

  • Learn how to use this insight and wisdom on ourselves to develop greater self awareness
