Week 4 - Cultivating a Wholesome Heart (Sila)

Cultivating a calm and clear mind through the practices of Shamatha and Vipassana helps us to develop an awareness that is better able to recognize unskillful habits that lead to feelings of distress, dissatisfaction, and discontentment. Once we recognize these patterns we can begin to let go of those unskilful habits and instead cultivate more skillful habits that are uplifting and fulfilling.

In this fourth class of the series we are taking a look at how our attitude shapes and colors our experience and how we relate to the world. Is our attitude selfish, divisive, and dualistic leaving us feeling disconnected or are we developing attitudes that are more unifying and wholesome that lead to the realized feeling of interconnectedness? In this class we will explore the various meditation practices the work on cultivating the attitudes of love, joy, appreciation, gratitude and compassion. These attitudes, in turn lead us to even greater self-awareness and which empowers us to navigate life with greater harmony and balance.

In this fourth class of the series we will…

  • Explore a wide range of meditation practices that work on cultivating a more wholesome heart.

  • Discuss and explore The Four Noble Attitudes that soften and uplift the heart.

    • Love, Compassion, Joy, Equanimity
